3 Day First Aid At Work Course
GSS ‘First Aid At Work’ training course helps you learn in a fun and enjoyable manner with factsheets, worksheets, slides on a screen and more, coupled with hands-on training, with plenty of ‘dummies’ to practice on (the faceless kind), inclusing CPR, choking and setting a broken arm are a few of the first aid procedures that are taught.
Many people suffer from asthma and it is important to know how to identify an asthma attack in a sufferer and the best way to respond. Bites and stings, scalds and burns, severe bleeding from a cut, how to identify a person who has gone into shock are all scenarios that require first aid. Chest pains, fainting, poisons, seizures, heat exhaustion and how to cope in an emergency are other topics to learn.
Some of the things that can happen, where first aid at work will prove beneficial are bone, muscle and joint injuries, head injuries, electric shock, heat exhaustion, spinal or back injury and severe allergic reactions. Learning about hazards in the workplace are important to know and role-playing is an ideal way to learn how to avoid them and what to do when someone has been injured.
Although most people associate heart attacks with obese, elderly people or smokers, the fact is that even a young person can suffer a heart attack. CPR training is something everyone should know because a heart attack can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time of the day or night. No one plans these things. Students are also taught about choking, the right and wrong way to respond to someone who has food lodged in their esophagus and what to do if they become unconscious. This is an excellent skill to learn and quite easy to apply, when someone teaches you the proper technique. Imagine saving a life!
GSS has a user-friendly website that is easy to navigate around and find out all the information that anyone wants to find out about them. Learning ‘First Aid At Work’ fits into the rest of the curriculum and the credits will not only result in a First Aid certificate, but the credits count towards graduation. The certificates have a validation date, where it is acceptable for a certain time period, but when that time period expires (or even before it expires) a refresher course in first aid would have to be taken.
Everything is constantly updated and if you have not had to respond to an emergency during the time that your certificate is valid, it would be easy to get a little ‘rusty’ regarding information learned and procedures that were practiced. No one would forget everything, but it is easy to forget some things when they are not in constant use or needing to be recalled. Refresher courses are important to keep up with any improved techniques, health regulations or any other pertinent or new information pertaining to the workplace. With a refresher course, skills can be tested and procedures can be practiced. It is important to keep on top of things when it comes to first aid, in fact, that applies to any other subject.
